Pakistan’s Mobile Phone Manufacturing Sees Modest Growth as Local Production Rebounds

Islamabad: Pakistan's mobile phone manufacturing industry showed signs of recovery in November 2025, with local production increasing by 7% month-on-month, according to the latest data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). The industry manufactured and assembled 2.49 million units in November, marking an 8% year-on-year increase from the 2.31 million units produced in the same month last year.

The modest rise in local production is attributed to a recovery phase as the industry begins to normalize following a period of slowdown and inventory buildup. However, the cumulative local manufacturing and assembly figures for the first eleven months of 2025 reached 27.6 million units, reflecting a 3% decline compared to the same period last year.

Smartphones accounted for 53% of the total production during the eleven-month period, with 14.51 million units manufactured, while 2G phones made up 47% of the output with 13.09 million units. Despite this production increase, locally manufactured units fulfilled 88% of Pakistan's mobile phone demand in the first eleven months of 2025, a decrease from the 93% average in the first ten months. The decline is largely attributed to increased imports following the launch of the Apple iPhone 17.

Among the top ten locally assembled brands during this period, Infinix led with 3.47 million units, followed by VGO Tel with 3.07 million units, and Vivo with 2.57 million units. Other notable brands included Itel, Tecno, Samsung, Xiaomi, Q Mobile, Realme, and G'Five, each contributing to local production.

Looking ahead, industry analysts expect mobile phone sales to grow by 7-8% year-on-year over the next 12 months. This anticipated growth is supported by a stable Pakistani rupee, easing inflation, and improving consumer purchasing power. Companies like Airlink Communication and Lucky Cement are expected to benefit from rising demand, as their locally assembled brands such as Tecno, Xiaomi, and Samsung rank among the top ten in the country.
