Saudia Group Secures Up to 100 eVTOL Jets in Move to Electrify Air Mobility

Karachi: In a significant advancement for electric aviation, Saudia Group has entered into a binding agreement with Lilium N.V. to acquire 50 electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) jets, with an option for 50 additional aircraft. The deal, which positions Saudia Group as a pioneer in the Middle East and North Africa's regional air mobility, was formalized at Lilium’s headquarters in Munich.

According to Saudia Airlines, the agreement was signed in the presence of notable figures, including Saudia Group’s CEO Fahd Al-Jarbou and Lilium's CEO Klaus Roewe. This acquisition is part of Saudia Group’s strategy to support Saudi Vision 2030 by enhancing sustainable and efficient travel solutions. The eVTOL jets are expected to serve routes that benefit business travelers, enhance tourism, and support various sectors including sports and entertainment, with the first jets scheduled for delivery in 2026.

The introduction of these all-electric jets is likely to influence regional air mobility across South Asia, particularly benefiting countries like Pakistan that are seeking to modernize their aviation infrastructure and reduce carbon emissions. The move by Saudia Group could serve as a model for Pakistani aviation companies to follow, potentially boosting tourism and business travel within the region.
